FRESH AND NATURAL IS BEST
Hi There,
Welcome to our little corner of the world wide web. We hope this page gives you
some information about us and what we are hoping to accomplish on our little corner of the physical world.
We are the Doyle family. We have lived here on Rising Sun Rd for going on 12 years. We bought our property for it's location to Dover and the size of the lot. We felt it was a great place to raise our kids and we were never disapointed with our choice. Since then our family has grown to include grandchildren which we take pride and honestly, we tend to spoil them just a wee bit.
A few years ago, we decided to start a summer vegetable garden. I borrowed a friend's ( thanks Harry and Joyce) small rototiller and just about killed myself attempting to break ground for a 20x30 foot plot. That darn thing bounced and bounced for hours until I saw dirt...Whew!!! It took weeks to get the plot tilled enough to plant a few things but raw determination and the occasional teasing from some friends drove me not to give up. The end result was nice little crop of tomato's, corn, squash and lettuce. Boy was I a proud papa...lol. We noticed that the flavor of our home grown food was constantly superior to that we purchased in the local super markets. That fall and winter we of course bought produce and couldnt believe how costly and tasteless it was becoming.
In the winter of 2009/2010 I did alot of research and came to the realization that the majority of the food we were buying was produced by huge corporations and most of it was chemically treated. By this I mean that the ground is tilled and a chemical fertilizer is added. Then to keep weeds out, a chemical herbicide is sprayed in the fields. To combat insects another chemical is sprayed, sometimes several times. A bit more reading and I soon realized most of the produce was genetically altered to look more appealing and to last longer, in some cases, weeks longer. So here's the scoop. prettier veggies, loaded with chemicals, lasting weeks with diminished flavor. Are you okay with that??? I'm not!!!!!
We have discovered that we can grow quite a few different varieties without any of the chemicals metioned above. Honestly, it's more work than I anticipated but we believe it is worth the effort. With each season comes more insight and better results. We search to find organic seeds from all over the country. We also have discovered better ways to combat crop destroying pests and weeds. All done by hand and not a single chemical application. Not one.
Thank you for your interest. We hope to see you soon.
